Carbon Project Checker
Type any registry reference and read what the public record actually says about that project: what it is, what independent review has found, and whether we would buy the credits. Free, and sourced from public registries, peer-reviewed research and named investigative reporting.
What you get for a registry reference
Paste VCS 3342, GS 1234 or ACR 500. Three steps, every one of them checkable, and the same answers in the same order so two projects compare side by side.
-
1
We start from the registry
The project id, proponent, country, methodology, status, and how many credits have been issued and retired. Imported, not written by anyone.
-
2
We read what others found
Peer-reviewed research, regulatory action, registry decisions and named journalism. Every claim needs a source URL that resolves, or it is dropped before the page is built.
-
3
We say what we think
Eight dimensions scored and weighted into one band, and a plain paragraph on whether we would buy. Where the record is thin, it says so.
What you get when you offset with us
We built this checker because the market it sells into deserves the scrutiny. Here is what you get, and you can hold us to all of it.
VERRA and Gold Standard verified
Registry credits and reforestation verified for climate, biodiversity and community impact.
Every tree GPS-tagged
On your own live forest map, planted by local farmers, with more than 1,000 local jobs supported.
A free emissions report
A GHG Protocol-aligned Scope 1, 2 and 3 inventory from your real data, with no obligation to offset.
Prices on the page
Monthly or one-off, no contracts, cancel any time, and every tree already planted stays in the ground.
Your emissions and your forest, on one dashboard
This is the reporting every Evertreen business client gets. Measure Scope 1, 2 and 3, track a science-aligned pathway to net zero, and offset the rest with trees your customers can see.
Carbon reporting without the complexity
Measure, offset and report — one platform, guided by our team. Here’s what each part of your dashboard does.
Know your number, scope by scope
We estimate your Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions from sector benchmarks in minutes, then our team refines it into a free, GHG Protocol-aligned CO₂ report using your real activity data — energy, travel, procurement, cloud and commuting.
No spreadsheets, no consultants, no cost.A science-aligned pathway to net zero by 2030
Your dashboard sets a reduction pathway aligned with climate science and shows progress against it every month. The source breakdown tells you where to act first — and your emissions intensity keeps the numbers fair as you grow.
Ready for ESG questionnaires, tenders and stakeholder updates.
Offset with trees everyone can see
What you can’t reduce, you offset by planting real trees in VERRA and Gold Standard verified projects. Every tree is GPS-tagged on your live public forest map, monitored by satellite, with certificates and registry evidence for your reports — and badges for your website and socials.
See how your public forest page works →Proof for every tree. Evidence for every tonne.
Your customers are right to be sceptical of offsetting claims. That’s why everything you fund through Evertreen is verifiable — down to the individual tree.
Satellite monitoring of forest cover across Evertreen planting sites
Official CO₂ credits from projects certified under the world’s leading carbon standard.
Reforestation projects independently verified for climate, biodiversity and community impact.
Every tree has coordinates on your map; planting sites are monitored from space as they grow.
Your trees create paid work — 1,000+ local jobs supported across our projects so far.
We calculate your emissions for you
Start with a one minute conversation. Then our sustainability team turns it into a full, GHG Protocol-aligned Scope 1, 2 & 3 inventory built from your real activity data — free, and with no obligation to offset with us.
Tell us your headcount and sector and we will come back with a benchmark-based number, enough to know your order of magnitude today.
Energy, business travel, procurement, cloud and commuting — our team gathers what’s needed. No spreadsheets on your side.
A GHG Protocol-aligned Scope 1, 2 & 3 inventory with a per-source breakdown, sector benchmark and concrete reduction levers.
What you can’t reduce yet, you offset with real trees — and your customers watch the forest grow on your live page.
Frequently asked questions
What is carbon accounting?
Carbon accounting is measuring the greenhouse gas emissions a business is responsible for, in tonnes of CO2 equivalent, and attributing them to Scope 1, 2 and 3 under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. It is the basis for a reduction target, for reporting, and for working out what is genuinely left to offset. Evertreen builds a GHG Protocol-aligned inventory from your real activity data, free.
What are Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions?
Scope 1 is direct emissions from fuel you burn. Scope 2 is the energy you buy. Scope 3 is everything else in your value chain, including procurement, business travel, cloud and commuting, and it is usually the largest of the three by a wide margin. A credible net zero claim has to account for all three, not the first two.
How do I know if a carbon credit is good quality?
Ask four questions about the project behind it: would the outcome have happened anyway (additionality), is the baseline it is measured against realistic (over-crediting risk), will the carbon stay stored (permanence), and has anyone independent examined it. This checker answers all four for any registry reference, with a source link on every finding.
What does a carbon offset actually cost?
It depends entirely on the project type. Avoidance credits from forestry are typically the cheapest, and durable removals such as biochar or direct air capture are the most expensive, by orders of magnitude. Price is not a proxy for quality, which is why this checker rates the project rather than the price. Evertreen publishes per-tree and per-package prices rather than asking you to book a demo to see them.
What does a concern band actually mean?
It is a summary of what the public record shows, not a verdict on the project's worth. The bands run from limited concerns identified to serious concerns identified, plus insufficient public information, which is a common and honest outcome for projects nobody has examined publicly.
What is the difference between a removal credit and an avoidance credit?
A removal credit represents CO2 taken out of the atmosphere, for example by planting trees or by direct air capture. An avoidance credit represents emissions a project says would otherwise have happened, for example deforestation that was prevented. They are different products with different risks, and every profile labels which one a project issues.
Which registries can I look up?
Verra (VCS), Gold Standard (GS), the American Carbon Registry (ACR), the Climate Action Reserve (CAR), ART, Puro, Plan Vivo and Isometric. Type the reference in any form: VCS 3018, VCS-3018 and vcs3018 all resolve to the same project.
How is the CO2 offset per tree calculated?
Absorption depends on the species and the project and follows recognised methodologies. As a rule of thumb a mature tree absorbs about 22 kg of CO2 a year, a figure published by the USDA Forest Service. For audited claims we provide VERRA-verified carbon credits rather than an estimate.
Should we offset monthly or in one go?
Monthly planting matches your ongoing emissions and spreads the cost, which suits offsetting operations. A one-off plant suits compensating last year's footprint, an event or a campaign. Both plant real trees, both appear on your dashboard, and you can combine or change them at any time.
Is offsetting a substitute for reducing our emissions?
No, and any provider who says otherwise is selling greenwash. Reduce what you can first, then offset the residual you cannot eliminate yet. That is why the reporting shows both sides: the source breakdown tells you where to cut, and your forest covers what remains.
Can we cancel? What happens to the trees?
You can cancel a monthly plan at any time, and there are no contracts. Every tree already planted stays in the ground, keeps absorbing CO2, and remains on your dashboard and certificates.
Evertreen sells offsets. Why should I trust this checker?
Because you can check it. Every finding names its source and links to it, the weighting behind every band is published, and where we sell something connected to a project we are assessing, the page says so on the page itself. We also show our own products underneath each assessment, clearly labelled, so you know exactly where our commercial interest lies.
