How carbon offsetting works with Evertreen

1 We measure your emissions, or you tell us your tonnes.

If you already know your volume, send it with the form. If you do not, we build a free Scope 1, 2 and 3 estimate of your company’s emissions with you.

2 You get three offset options.

Within one working day you receive a written quote with three project options, Verra and Gold Standard, each with its price per tonne and registry details. No contract.

3 We retire the offsets, you get the proof.

We retire the credits in your company’s name and send your certificate with the registry serial numbers. Your own dashboard tracks every retirement, so you can monitor everything at any time.

Proof you can hand to your auditor

Every credit is retired on the Verra or Gold Standard registry with your company named as the beneficiary. Your certificate lists the serial number of every tonne, so the retirement can be checked by anyone, at any time.

  • Retired on the Verra or Gold Standard registry
  • Your company named as the beneficiary
  • Serial numbers anyone can verify on the public registry

Say exactly what you did, for example “In 2026 we retired 500 tonnes of Verra-verified carbon credits”, and link to the registry record. Rules on environmental claims are tightening in the UK and the EU, so we recommend factual statements over broad labels.

What is carbon offsetting?

Carbon offsetting funds projects that remove or avoid CO₂e emissions, to balance the emissions you cannot eliminate yet. Reduce first, offset the residual: that order is what makes an offsetting claim credible.

Scope 1, 2 and 3: the three categories of business emissions

Scope 1 is the fuel you burn, on site and in your vehicles. Scope 2 is the electricity, heat and steam you buy. Scope 3 is everything in your value chain, from procurement to travel and commuting. For most companies Scope 3 is 70 to 90% of the total, and it is the part nobody measures.

Which instrument covers which scope

Renewable energy certificates (RECs, I-RECs, Guarantees of Origin) cover Scope 2 under market-based reporting: one certificate per MWh of electricity you buy. Carbon credits verified by VERRA (VCS) or Gold Standard cover what remains of Scope 1 and Scope 3 after reductions: one credit per tonne of CO₂e avoided or removed.

Why quality matters more than quantity

Verified projects are independently audited for additionality and permanence, and every credit is recorded on a public registry with a serial number, so it can never be sold twice. Retirement in your name is what turns a purchase into a claim you can put in a report.

How Evertreen approaches it

We estimate your Scope 1, 2 and 3 footprint with you, build a portfolio of verified credits and certificates by scope, retire it in your name and give you the certificates, registry records and dashboard your reports need. No contract: per tonne, one-off or on a schedule you set, and everything already retired stays retired.
